follow these steps for flawless hair.

Okay yes boo. You’ve finally gotten the long hair you’re after! It’s feeling thicker, more full, and now things like braids, a big bun, or those sexy beach waves are options! After all of that hard work to get the hair you’ve always wanted, let’s talk about the routine you should follow so you can have them for as long as possible. Extensions typically last about 9 months - longer if you’re super diligent! We should have already covered extension care but here they are listed out for easy reference:

  • Washing - Carefully wash between rows in a downward motion using only the products I have recommended. Clarify every 6 weeks or so to remove product build up. It is best if you avoid washing your extension hair more than 1-2 times a week. Before you scoff, and drop that jaw - let me explain why. It’s called the lazy girl hair wash. You start by sectioning out all of the hair higher than your extension beads. Clip that hair up and take all of your extension hair, pull it back, and braid it tightly. Next, head to the bath, shower, or even the sink and wet only your natural hair. Wash your natural hair with shampoo and conditioner as normal, making sure none of the extension hair is getting wet. Blow dry and style natural hair. Then, grab the provided extension oil, take down extensions and use the oil working from bottom of the hair upwards. Lastly, hit the extensions with a little heat using a curling iron, straightening brush, or flat iron and style as normal.

  • Brushing - Brush at the very least morning and night. Be sure to separate your rows and brush natural hair. Using the provided de-tangler/leave-in and a light amount of oil, start at the bottom of the extensions, working your way up, holding the base of your rows to minimize tension.

  • Sleeping - You want the least amount of friction as you sleep as possible. To minimize tangling or matting before bed time rolls around, thoroughly brush all of your hair and either loosely braid or wear one to two loose pony tails - too tight and your extensions may pull. DO NOT SLEEP WITH WET HAIR - this is typically when matting occurs. Try your hardest to blow dry the row and extension hair prior to falling asleep. A satin pillow case is always recommended.

  • Swimming and Beach Days - First off, JEALOUSSS! Chlorine and salt water will strip the coating of the extensions shortening their overall longevity. But if you must, first, rinse all of your hair with fresh water and apply the provided de-tangler leave-in or moisture mask before plunging in. Keep sunscreen off of extensions, they will turn a peachy, pink and i cannot get that out, we would need to replace with new extensions.

  • Blow Drying and Styling - If you have multiple rows it’s best to separate each row and dry individually. Working downwards, while applying little tension, make sure you completely dry the row and thread until the hair is mostly dry. DO NOT USE HOT TOOLS ON THE HIGHEST SETTING. To use your curling iron, do one pass with the curling iron barrel before curling to heat up the strand - this will polish and make it look smoother. If you plan on wearing it straight, just make sure your straightening the hair under and in between the rows to make it all look uniform.

Final Reminders:

  1. Only use moisture products, protein will create more damage

  2. Don’t over do it on the product, let it build up through the week

  3. Only use the products I recommend - and reach out if you have questions

  4. Don’t scrub your hair vigorously while shampooing - gently scrub in a downward motion

  5. Brush your extensions thoroughly and often!
